The essentials to get started, and the questions people write to us about most.

Installing

What the computer needs
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, and a DirectX 11 compatible graphics card. Nothing else to install: KJ Clothes ships with everything it needs.
Installing
Run the installer you downloaded: it installs KJ Clothes for your Windows account, without administrator rights, with a shortcut on the desktop and in the Start menu. .clsproj files then open with a double click. To remove it: Windows Settings, Apps, KJ Clothes, Uninstall; your projects are not touched.
Without installing
Unzip the portable version (.zip) wherever you like, except in a folder that is constantly synced (OneDrive…). Run “KJ Clothes.exe” at the root of the folder; it updates itself too.
“Windows protected your PC”
This warning shows for recent software that Windows does not know yet. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
Seeing garments worn
If GTA V (classic edition, with gta5.exe) is installed, KJ Clothes reads the character’s body from it, without changing anything, to show garments worn. The game folder is set in Settings; without it, garments show on their own. The Enhanced edition is not supported yet.
Updating
Nothing to do: KJ Clothes looks for a new version at start-up and then every day, downloads it in the background and installs it when you close the app. To install it right away: Help menu, “Restart to install version…”. Your projects, settings and licence are kept.

Licence and computers

Without a licence
KJ Clothes works for free up to 10 garments per pack built: import, organise, preview and build. Beyond that, or for tattoos and catalogue images, you need a subscription; the Packs screen shows where you stand.
Activating
In the License tab, paste the key shown at purchase (and sent by e-mail), then click Activate. The dashes are optional. Each activation takes one seat.
Lost key
On the My account page, “Lost key?”: enter the purchase e-mail address and your keys are sent to it again. Remember to check your spam folder.
Changing computers
On the old machine, “Release this seat”. If it is out of reach, go to your account, enter your key and release the seat from the list. Two releases a month free the seat at once; beyond that, it frees itself when the old computer’s licence runs out, within three days.
Working offline
When connected, KJ Clothes rechecks its licence every few hours. Offline, it keeps working for up to two days after the last check, and never stops in the middle of a build.

Building a pack

File names it recognises
Raw sources such as jbib_000_u.ydd with jbib_diff_000_a_uni.ytd, and files taken from a pack that is already built, with their mp_m_freemode_01_… prefix before the ^.
Order and numbering
The in-game number comes from the position in the list, per category and gender. Adding a garment at the end never renumbers the ones before it.
Beyond 255
The game cannot go past 255 garments per category and gender in one pack, nor 255 props (hats, glasses, watches…) per gender across all prop categories. Past that, the rest goes into an extra part (pack_2, pack_3…), built from the same project.
Live pack
Once a pack is on your server, pick it in the Library and turn on “Live”, next to “Manage packs”: its numbers are frozen. Switching a garment off then leaves a reserved slot, so the others keep their number.
Duplicates
The Duplicates button looks for models imported more than once in the same slot (gender and category). It switches exact copies off and merges different colours into one garment, without ever losing one. It all undoes with Ctrl+Z.
High heels
Tick it on the shoes concerned. The software then writes the expression that raises the character, and the creature metadata file that goes with it.

Catalogue images

Starting ID
For each category, enter the first number your server uses. The images then carry the right name straight away.
Categories without an ID
Their images go into “_a_numeroter” rather than getting a made-up number. Enter the missing ID and run it again: only those images are redone.
Resuming a batch
Leave “Keep images already there (resume)” ticked. An interrupted batch picks up where it stopped.
